As the apparent darkness of the 'Th13teen' collection closed it doors at the end of 2013, the Scottish artist aged just 30, the paint brushes were early retired but for commissions and the odd dabble with the palette. The artists own personal desire to paint had stopped with the drama that had inspired the collection.
A whirl wind romance between the Scotsman and an Albanian that started with a chance meeting in Milano in the spring of 2015 before travelling together through north and central Italy including Venezia, Firenze, Roma, Verona and the lakes; Paris soon followed as did a Christmas proposal in København; the artist flirting with poetry and sketches but it wasn't until a request to paint the first bunch of flowers that greeted the woman on arrival to Edinburgh before the oils and brushes were once again applied to canvas. With that the Flower collection was born.
Inspired by one woman and the artwork of Europe much admired by the artist, especially that of the impressionist era; the recurrence of sunflowers already present in Humanity and Th13teen as a nod to van Gogh prior to the Flower collections inception but Vincent's brilliance continued to influence the artist once again. 19 oil paintings of fresh lilies, sunflowers, roses and lavender as a reminder to a summer trip to Provence, painted in just 6 short weeks before being displayed in August 2016 at the renowned Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh.
